A postgraduate student of mine, Colin Ayres completed a project investigating the effectiveness of flopper stoppers on roll motion reduction. Dissatisfied with their performance he resurrected an old idea of using a brute (i.e. large) gyro to provide roll stabilisation. This led to the formation of the company Sea Gyro of which I was a Director from 2004-2007. Colin is still running this successful company, now based in Malaysia.
