Learning nights
In 2010 I identified a mismatch between training courses available and the needs of a particular sector – the “reluctant crew”. This is the person who is only going on their cruising yacht because the partner is a keen sailor. Their enjoyment of the experience is constrained by their lack of understanding and control of the situations they find themselves in. I developed and presented a series of practical 10 evening classes ( i.e. no boring Powerpoint presentations) to fill the needs gap. Over 5 years we trained more than 100 students, most of whom extended their sailing experience as result, including sailing around the world and joining a Sydney-Hobart race. By 2016 we had saturated the local market. The document below is a compilation of the class notes. They are short and simple.
