The Jewel of Muscat is a reconstruction of an 18m long 9th century vessel built of sewn timber planks. The vessel was built on a beach in Oman and sailed to Singapore, where it is now on display at the Maritime Experiential Museum. I provided occasional design advice and was fortunate to be invited by the project director Dr Tom Vosmer to the launching in 2009. What was intended to be a relaxing holiday turned out to be a frenetic five-day engineering project. All ended happily!

Full scale performance
This paper was published in The Australian Naval Architect in August 2023. It compares the scale model tests of Jewel of Muscat with the performance of the full size vessel on its voyage from Oman to Singapore.
