Jon Sanders is arguably the greatest living sailor in the world, having completed 11 circumnavigations – most of them single-handed. In 1986-88 he completed a solo non-stop triple circumnavigation, the longest continuous voyage of any terrestrial vehicle (70,000 miles). Not even nuclear submarines have travelled that far. The project, Project Endeavour, was managed by Curtin University’s Centre for Marine Science and Technolgoy team , of which I was the project naval architect. Jon’s yacht Parry Endeavour is now on display at the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle.
